Why Do Poeple Email Me Such Things

I received this in an email the other day and was very disturbed by it. At first I just sent it to my trash folder, but my mind kept going back to it and back to it. I just could not believe what I had read. I don’t know who this Michael Richards is (not a Seinfeld fan) or if he even wrote this. This was in a forwarded email, and we all know that most forwards are not reliable sources for anything. Saying that, I should probably not be replying to it, but if things like this can be sent to me then I think I have a right to send out a reply. Everything in italics (and green on by screen . . . may not be green once I post it) is from the email. I plan on replying to each individual statement made in the email, so this will be long.

This is great. I have been wondering about why Whites are racists, and no other race is. Proud to be White. You are proud to be black, brown, and yellowand orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists

First of all, I am proud to be white. Everyone should be proud of who they are and what their heritage is. I am a large part Native American, Cherokee on both sides of my family. One of my great, great, great etc. grandfathers was Chief of a Cherokee tribe, Whitecloud was his name. I don’t look it but my mother and a few others in my family do. My skin is pale, nearly Casperish, my hair is medium brown. I am also part German, and I think some Irish. Like many other people in this country, who are not full blooded Native American, some of my Ancestors came here from other countries. I cannot trace, well have not, fully traced my heritage as far back as I can. Also, like 99% of the people in this country I was born here, that makes me a citizen, an American. Being an American is my heritage. Yes parts of me want to know more about my Native American blood and I find it sad that the Native American languages are becoming extinct but I have been too lazy to follow through with it. Therefore, yes I am proud to be what I am, but that does not back me hate anyone else for who they are nor do I think I am better than anyone else because they don’t look like me.
Second of all, everyone is racist and judgmental to an extent. It is sad, I know, but it is true. No matter who you are, you are racist. People are scared of anything or anyone they think is different from them. No matter how hard you try, you cannot stop your mind from thinking something or reacting to something. The point is to overcome it, to not say what you were thinking, to learn why you feel that way, to try and do better.
Thirdly, we do it to ourselves. Take this email for one thing. It is things like this that tell other people that white people are still racist. Saying stupid, ignorant things like this is what makes other people dislike us. Take learning a second language for another. I have tried to teach my nieces and nephews a few Spanish words. I am not fluent in the language, in any sense of the word, but teaching them helps me keep up with what I already know plus it teaches them that there are other cultures, other languages in the world, it teaches them to look past their own front door, so to speak. Unfortunately, two of my brother-n-laws (well one technically is not my brother-n-law, he is my best-friends husband but since she is like a sister to me he I his my brother-n-law) have taken issue with this because . . . well because they are racist towards, Mexico really, I am not sure if they ever realize that Spanish is spoken in more countries than Mexico.

Michael Richards makes his point... ichael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point. This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points... Someone finally said it... How many are actually paying attention to this?


I vaguely remember the events mentioned above. What I do remember about it was that what he said was racist. It was uncalled for, though I am not sure about the whole court issue. As I have said before in other posts, I live in the south and if every time anyone of any race said anything racist about another group of people, we went to court over this, the entire state would live in court. I am not saying he should not have to apologize to all those people he offended, especially those there that night, for saying it.

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman' ... and that's OK. But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist.

I guess these comments will all be in parts so here goes. First of all why would they be calling you that for no reason? No one, civilized, does that. I live in the south, the Deep South, and people don’t do that. I go to a fairly large university, with, I could not tell you how many, different types of people, and have never seen anyone do that. I work in a down town area and frequently walk the back alleys and main streets and people have never done this to me or anyone else on the street. I might get a few alcoholics mumbling to themselves but no one making racial slurs about anyone else, at least not out loud for anyone to hear.
You are welcome to your own opinion in your own home or to your own personal group of people. I have been with a group of people and someone has said to us something bad about another person but not directly to their face, and most of the time we ganged up as a group on whoever said the “bad” thing and shut them up. I have been with straight people who talk about gay people, gay people who talk about straight people, white people about black people and black people about white people. Again no one is above it. For the most part though, no really says anything bad about another person or group of people directly to their faces.
They only time I have ever heard openly racist things said about anyone was when there was an argument going on, and for the most part those things were said out of anger, and to purposely hurt or enrage the other person. I am limited in my knowledge of the subject, I guess, to where I live. So maybe it is like this in other places and I am sure there are some ignorant people out there who would openly say something like that to or about someone else, black, white, Hispanic, Chinese, Japanese, poor, wealthy, gay, straight, educated, non-educated, etc. but I don’t see it as an everyday all day thing.
I am not gorgeous by any means but I do have Dolly Parton (but real, though not perky) breast, and occasionally some “man” will eye ball them or say some thing about them, but for the most part most people are civilized and don’t. Most of our population is intelligent enough not to do this and no one group can take responsibility for what a small portion of their group does. So if you hear some thing like this, be the bigger person and not acknowledge it and walk away. No one said it was “ok” for them to do this, so don’t act like they did.
Secondly, because it is not “ok” for them to call you racist names, it is not ok for you to call them such things, and yes they are being racist to call you such things and you are being racist to call them such things. (I refuse to repeat the words he listed.)

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live? You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug- dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist. I am proud... But you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists??

Ghettos are not full of just black people. They are full of low income families of all races. Crimes are not just committed in these ghettos, either, they are committed every where people live and are committed by everyone. I do not have the statistic’s in front of me, but yes from what I have heard poor countries, states, cities, neighborhoods have a higher amout of violence. The poorer a person is the more desperate they get. The more desperate they get the more they tend to result to breaking the law. If I haven’t eaten in a few days I am sure I would still some food.

You have the United Negro College Fund. If we had a college fund that
only gave white students scholarships .You know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US. Yet if there were 'White colleges' That would be a racist college. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month.. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have BET... If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we'd be racists. We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?

First of all, I agree that we are coming upon a time where everyone should able to get a good education, but remember not too long ago it was not so, and someone had to help those who were being denied this right based on their race. Hopefully very soon we will not need such things. Although, why a white man would be complaining about such a thing, is beyond me. It isn’t like he is being denied. No one with half decent grades and the will power is going to be denied an education or the funding for the education. There are scholarships out there for everyone and for every field; you just have to apply yourself. When I finally graduate I will have a huge financial debt, but that is the price I will have to pay to get the education to get a decent job.
Secondly, every culture, every religion, hell every city or town has its on holiday. So get used to it, they are not taking yours away I promise.
Thirdly, yes, you would be racists if you had a television show called WET, especially considering that the largest chuck of talk shows, news shows, etch have predominately white hosts. We you live in a country where most of the actors are white, your television hosts are white, etc, you don’t have to have such things because you are not in the minority and your needs are already being catered to. If white people did not hold the monopoly on such things in this country, then no, no one would have a problem if there was a WET Chanel.

If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists. If we had White History Month, we'd be racists. If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR, lives we'd be racists.

Again, white people don’t need such things. There is not need for a White history month. White people have been the dominate force in the world for a long time. They know their history. No one tried to cover up who they were or what they invented. Their books, especially white men’s, were published without question, they have always had the right to vote, always had the right to anything they wanted. What do they need an organization to ‘advance’ their lives for, they already have and can get anything they want, which is why they would sound racist for say, doing, or organizing such things.

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.

I am not replying to this, except to say that this is petty.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

White people don’t need to march for anything; their rights are not being violated.

There is nothing improper about this e-mail. Let's see which of you are proud enough to send it on. I sadly don't think many will. That's why we have lost most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won't stand up for ourselves! BE PROUD TO BE WHITE! It's not a crime yet ... but getting real close!

I am stopping here because I feel I am just being repetitive. I rearranged some of this email so that it would not be too repetitive and because it was getting to be too long. Being proud of who you are will never be a crime and your persecution comes form the attitude you show others. If you act as if you are better than others then they will treat you like the asswhole you are. I have made my self too ill and frustrated to go on but hopefully you get the point.
